In a bid to safeguard and provide security for transformers in Offa, Kwara State, The Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Foundation has successfully distributed the first batch of solar-powered street lights across nine strategic locations in Offa, Kwara State.
This was a swift response to the cases of vandalism of transformer cables in the Offa community.
The first batch of street lights has been strategically distributed to nine key areas within Offa, which were affected by transformers’ vandalism. The areas are: Olalomi Hospital, Blue Hostel, Iyeru Okin Bread, The Holy Place, Naval College Checkpoint, Igberiogun Community, Omo Owo, Dapson Hotel and Amuyo.
Others will be distributed on Sunday, 6th of August, 2023.
Mr. Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, the founder of MOK Foundation, has earlier expressed his concern over the discomfort and inconvenience caused to the residents of Offa community due to vandalising of transformers.
The project, which aims to illuminate affected transformers to scare the perpetrators away and improve the overall security and visibility within the community, has received widespread acclaim, with residents expressing their gratitude for MOK’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the community.
According to MOK, the initiative was inspired by a deep-rooted desire to create a safer and more secure environment for the people of Offa.
Aside from the lightening the vandalized transformers stand, MOK stated that he recognizes that proper lighting is crucial for road safety, crime prevention, and overall urban development, and hence decided to provide solar-powered street lights as they provide an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution.
