The Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Foundation has extended its collaborations to the Offa community in a bid to enhance food security and create job opportunities for youths by giving one of its tractor free of charge to farmers involved in the resuscitation and commercialization of the sweet potato (anamo) value chain.
News Bulletin Nigeria recalls that the creation of the food security plan followed the successful presentation on the Sweet Potato (Anomo) Value Chain by the Food Technology Department of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, during the 2023 Ijakadi Economic Fair.
Various community stakeholders have been charged with developing a comprehensive action plan for the commercialization of the sweet potato value chain. Their efforts align with the cultural and historical significance of sweet potato cultivation in Offa, aiming to contribute to poverty eradication and youth employment.
In its contribution to community development and agricultural engineering, the Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Foundation has provided its tractors for the cultivation of the farmland reserved for the food chain.
The collaboration was facilitated by the Council of Honourary Chiefs/Elders of Offa.
According to the Foundation’s Director, Mr. Saheed Lawal, collaboration with the Offa community on this project is MOK’s quota of being a strategic part of Offa’s ten-year development plan.
“The commitment from MOK Foundation to partner with the Offa community was secured, and follow-up actions and implementation plans will be developed to ensure the success of this collaboration. The engagement with Offa is expected to play a critical role in achieving the objectives of the Offa Sweet Potato Value Chain initiative,” he said.
